Christ the King School offers a 3 Year Old and 4 Year Old Kindergarten program for families. Kindy is your child’s first introduction to school. The early childhood years are critical in the development of the whole child.  In this time, children are growing and developing spiritually, linguistically, cognitively, socially, emotionally, physically and creatively.  Christ the King School’s early childhood education offers a play based program that facilitates the development of the whole child through the vehicle of “Play”.

3 Year Old Kindergarten

Children who have turned 3 years or are turning 3 before the 30th June that year are eligible to attend two full days of 3 Year Old Kindergarten per week – on a Thursday and or Friday from 8:40am – 2:45pm. Children must have turned three years of age to be eligible to attend. A qualified early childhood teacher leads the program with the support of an education assistant.

4 Year Old Kindergarten

Children who have turned 4 years or are turning 4 before the 30th June that year are able to commence 4 Year Old Kindergarten. Our Kindergarten runs three full days per week on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:40am – 2:45pm. A qualified early childhood teacher leads the program with the support of two education assistants.

Play

Play is the vehicle through which a child’s learning and development occurs, as it is through play that children problem solve, invent, construct, explore, question, hypothesise and investigate.  It is meaningful and non-threatening and encourages children to make choices.

Over the course of the year, children are immersed in a wide variety of play based experiences that facilitate their skills and concept development in the following domains:

Spiritual Development – We aim to develop an awareness of Jesus through informal experiences of prayer, spontaneous prayer, music, discussion and activities based on Religious events, e.g. Easter and Christmas

Language Development – The children will be introduced to language concepts in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening like: letter names and sounds, name recognition, name writing, pencil grips, conventions of print and speaking and listening roles.

Cognitive Development – Through mat sessions, learning centres and table activities the children will be encouraged to think, problem solve, predict, estimate, observe, experiment, compare, draw, write, count, match and measure.

Physical Development – Through the indoor and outdoor environments the children will be involved in activities and games that promote fine motor and gross motor skills.

Social-Emotional Development – We aim to offer a warm, secure and inviting environment through which the following concepts and skills can be nurtured: self concept, self esteem, independence, coping with change, making choices and decisions, taking risks, sharing, co-operating, accepting and following rules, expressing feelings, respecting others and basic concepts for a healthy lifestyle.

Creative Development – Through mat Sessions, learning centres and table activities the children will explore musical concepts such as beat, listening skills, singing, moving and playing musical instruments. Art concepts exploring line, colour, texture, shape/form and space will be facilitated through drawing, painting, printmaking, paper craft, collage and clay, role play, mime and drama.
